DitaExchange joins the Wirtek Group, expanding development capacity for its platform

The platform gains an engineering organization across three countries and an accelerated roadmap.

DitaExchange has joined Wirtek A/S, a Danish technology company listed on Nasdaq First North Copenhagen. For the organizations that run their controlled regulatory content on the DitaExchange platform, it means the same product and the same people, with a substantially larger development organization behind them.

The transaction covers all shares in DitaExchange ApS, including the US subsidiary DITA Exchange, Inc. It was signed and completed on 12 August 2026, with economic effect from 1 August 2026.

Added development capacity across three countries

DitaExchange has spent two decades on a single problem: how organizations in regulated industries author, review, approve and reuse regulatory content that has to withstand audit. Aviation authorities, nuclear safety commissions, life science companies, defense and energy operators run controlled content on the platform every day.

What joins that expertise now is capacity. Wirtek contributes a development organization across Denmark, Romania and Portugal, twenty-five years in the market, the governance framework of a listed company and ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 certified operations. Specialist engineering, quality assurance and testing capabilities are available to the DitaExchange team on an ongoing basis.

In practice that means a faster roadmap. Features that had to be sequenced can be developed in parallel. Platform work that competes with customer commitments can now run alongside it.

“We have spent two decades building a product our customers depend on every single day, and my ambition has always been for DitaExchange to keep getting better for the next twenty,” says Steffen Frederiksen, founder of DitaExchange. “Wirtek gives us the engineering foundation to do that at a completely different pace, and a partner that takes long-term customer relationships as seriously as we always have. This is the most significant step in the company’s history.”

Two companies serving the same industries

Wirtek builds software for energy, industrial operations, connectivity and other sectors where security, documentation and compliance requirements decide who gets the work. That is the same territory DitaExchange has served for twenty years, approached from the engineering side rather than the content side.

The result is a combined organization that understands both the regulated environment a customer operates in and the documentation obligations that come with it, across North America and Europe.

“DitaExchange has built something genuinely difficult: a product that works inside the customer’s own Microsoft environment, in industries where documentation is audited, with a team that understands precisely why it works that way,” says Michael Aaen, CEO of Wirtek. “Our job is to give that product the engineering weight and the reach it has earned, not to change what makes it good.”

Where the platform goes next

The case DitaExchange has made for two decades, that content should be written as components, described with proper metadata and approved once, is now more urgent. Organizations want to put their documentation to work in AI-supported processes, and a system can only reason reliably about content that is properly structured and described. Documents assembled as flat files, with metadata nobody reviews, do not survive that transition.

The platform already produces the kind of content that does: componentized, versioned, described with detailed metadata and approved through a controlled workflow. Wirtek’s engineering and AI-assisted development capability will be applied to that opportunity, alongside the platform’s continued development on Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Word.

What stays exactly as it is

The DitaExchange team continues, including the owners working in the business. Support contacts, release cadence and existing agreements are unchanged.

The product also keeps its name. DitaExchange is not being folded into another product or another platform, and continues as its own product line, with its own roadmap, within Wirtek’s Solutions division.

About the platform

DitaExchange is a component content management platform for structured documentation, based on the open DITA standard. It comprises Dx5, the server component, DxAuthor+, the Microsoft Word add-in used by authors and reviewers, DxChecker, which validates content both in Word and on the server, and DxMigrationTool for bringing existing documentation into the platform. Content is managed as reusable components: written once, approved once, and reused across every document in which it appears, with full version history and traceability.

The platform runs on the customer’s existing Microsoft 365 environment rather than as a separate system with its own editor. Authors and reviewers work in Microsoft Word, content is managed in SharePoint inside the customer’s own tenant, and documentation stays within the security and compliance controls the customer already operates. Structured content management can therefore be introduced without new infrastructure, and without retraining the specialists who write the content.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency uses DitaExchange to power eRules, the platform behind the Easy Access Rules format now used across European aviation, in continuous production since the first deliverable went live in February 2018. Other users include the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, and organizations across life sciences, energy, defense, financial services and the public sector in North America and Europe.
